Greek Street Food by Kara's Kalamaki, by Obelix

The thing about Food Trucks is that for the really good popular ones, one need to cultivate a bit of patience and persistence.  In this vein, when I spied that Greek Street Food by Kara's Kalamaki being besieged by a long queue, I figured it was fairly decent and prepared myself for the wait.

After a long 30 min wait (queue to order and wait time), I received my bounty.  With the order, I tried their oregano and fetta chips, Greek salad and The Cluck souvlaki (which is their version of chicken).

Greek Street Food by Kara's Kalamaki, feta chips
The chips were da bomb. Crisp and crunchy without being dry.  The blanketing of soft feta and oregano was a flavourful seasoning, they were very moreish.

Greek Street Food by Kara's Kalamaki, chicken souvlaki
The chicken souva was a bit too bready.  The pita bread, whilst warm and toasted was a bit too all-enveloping and suffocated the thin chicken meat skewer within.  Further compounding the carb overload was the fact the souva had chips within.  Whilst the chips themselves were delicious, it and the pita bread over powered everything.  I had my souva with onion, tzatziki and a slice or two of tomato.

Greek Street Food by Kara's Kalamaki, Greek salad
The Greek salad was awesome.  Loads of kalamata olives, a solid blanketing of soft feta, crisp slices of cucumber...it's great to see food trucks do healthy options well rather than as an after thought.

Verdict

We loved it
We loved it.

Overall

Greek Street Food is definitely worth the wait.  I would definitely return and opt for separate chips and salad and go with a skewer of meat in lieu of a souva.  If you're in the city, check out its physical shop, Kalamaki Greek Street Food on Lonsdale Street.
