Awesome Eats Along Dog Walking Trails by Obelix

Do your bliss.  I love that sentiment and for me, doing my bliss is spending time in nature, preferably with my dogs followed or preceded by sustenance.  Hence this post on eateries along or near dog parks or nature trails.  So get out there, folks!  Eat, drink and walk it off!

We would love to hear some of the lovely walks and eats you get up to.  Feel free to comment below or tag us on Instagram @eatandbemerrycrew.

Studley Park Boathouse / Studley Park walking trails (Kew)

This historical boathouse has fine dining, casual café and a kiosk all situated along the banks of the picturesque Yarra River.  For dog walkers, their kiosk provides a handy fuelling station among the elm trees.  Al fresco dining is available but just as popular is sitting under the canopy of the majestic trees.  The kiosk serves sandwiches, pies and baked goods.  The walking trails within the park are of varying levels of difficulties suitable for a range of fitness levels.  Duck feed can be purchased at the kiosk for some quacking fun.

Through Road Pantry / Cooper Reserve / Back Creek Reserve (Camberwell)

Cakes and pastries at Through Road Pantry

Situated within a few hundred metres from Coopers Reserve (off leash dog park) and the woodland-esque Back Creek walk, is Through Road Pantry (see Bureaucrat's review).  It is a family business and they bake their own pies, cakes and bread on premises.  A few tables are available outside.  Their custard donuts are a must to try!

Coopers Reserve is off set far enough from the road for free ranging safety.  Back Creek is located within a few hundred metres down Cornell St from Coopers Reserve.  It’s a beautiful short gravel walk along a burbling creek.  Perfect for a postprandial stroll.

North Point Café / Bay trail (Brighton)

Right on the shore front along the Bay trail is North Point Café.  It has an adjacent kiosk popular with dog walkers, cyclists, joggers alike.  The kiosk serves a selection of all day breakfast items; fish and chips; sandwiches and beverages.  The trail itself runs all the way along the Port Philip Bay coastline so you can walk as much or as little of it as you like.  Parking is available in North Road Reserve.  It’s a trail with bracing coastal views and if your dogs enjoy the water, they can frolic along the shore.

Our Kitchen Table / Central Park (Malvern East)

Sweet corn fritters at Our Kitchen Table

Our Kitchen Table opens bright and early at 7am, perfect if you are a morning dog walker like me! The cafe is popular among the locals for their caffeine hit and baked goods (see Big Fil's review).  The menu focuses on seasonally available produce.  It is situated opposite the manicured gardens and the majestic avenue of trees of Central Park with its paved walking paths and playground areas for the littlies.  There’s plenty of park benches within for rest breaks or just to sit and enjoy the beautifully landscaped flower beds whilst sipping your latte.

Madeline’s / Jells Park walking trails (Wheelers Hill)

Jells Park
Jells Park

Since I was knee high to a grasshopper, I have walked the circuit trail of Jells Park which takes you down to the lake populated with local water birds.  Nowadays, I take my dogs and we end our walk at the kiosk of Madeline’s.  Madeline’s itself is a restaurant over looking the lake.  As I’m often accompanied by my dogs who can’t enter the restaurant, I opt for their adjacent kiosk.  I usually order an ice cream or a cold beverage.  The kiosk also sells dog treats and have water bowls for the pooches.  Car parking available with the park.
